Masada Monday (and more)

Jun

The seventh day of the trip was by far the most intense and active. It began at 3:30am, when we awoke to go to Masada. We got up so early so we could make it to the top in time to see the sunrise. Despite how short the hike was (about an hour), it was the most difficult hike so far because it was so humid and so steep. It turns out that we took the most difficult path to the top, the "snake path." Once we
got to the top the feeling of accomplishment and the magestic sunrise made the hike worth it.

What does Shabbat mean to you?

This weekend (Friday and Sat.) was all about identity. Bus 124 spent our relaxing Shabbat in the holy city of Jerusalem. We got our first glimpses of the old city of Jerusalem on Friday morning and explored its narrow ally-ways while hearing stories of its 3000 year old history. We ended our tour of the old city of Jerusalem with a meaningful visit to the Western Wall where we put notes in the wall and spent personal time reflecting. Then we headed off to lunch at the German Colony.

Welcome "home" - we made it through our first day!

Car service arrives at 6 am and I get into JFK in roughly an hour. First thing I notice is that I am definitely the first person going on birth right to be at the airport. About 20 minutes later our group leaders Shoshana and Ariel arrive. I approach them and am absolutely delighted to be going to Israel with such nice people. The group slowly filters in and we eventually make our way to the flight. A few more hours and off we go, on our 11 hour trip. Sleeping on and off talking every so often and I can assure you a flight this long threatens the state of everyone's sanity.
