Day 7 | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Day 7

Bradford McKeon

This morning we had the priveledge of visiting the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. It is difficult to put into words the horrors of this atrocity, let alone develop an entire museum display to show case it, but Yad Vashem did not disappoint. Built into the side of a mountain, this building was easily one of the most beautiful structures I have ever visisted, and I beleive it pays an excellent tribute to the lives lost to the Holocaust. One of the displays that struck me the most was The Hall of Names. Yad Vashem has collected over four million names of victims resulting in an amazing display that serves as both a working research project and a memorial.

After reflecting on the past our group turned its sights on the future, specifically lunch. We visited a mall and grabbed some lunch on the go...Spoiler Alert: Israeli McDonalds is very diffent than back home, but worth the experience. Following lunch the group visited David Ben Gurion's burial site that hosted views straight out of a postcard. Bus 525 ended the evening at the Bedouin camp grounds where we will be staying for the evening.

After one of the best meals I have ever eaten, a game of catch with the football and a lesson highlighting the kindness of the Bedouin people a new thought comes to mind...life is good.
