Day 5 - Shabbat Evening | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Day 5 - Shabbat Evening

On Friday we went to the beautiful city of Tzfat. The weather was perfect for walking around the city. It was special being there on Friday afternoon because all of the people who live in the city were preparing for Shabbat. Restaurants and shops were closed earlier to welcome the Sabbath. On one of the streets there was a very narrow stairwell with a great view of Jerusalem that led to stairs to continue throughout the city. Shahar told us a very cute story about a women who used to sit there with a table and two cups of tea because she was waiting for the Messiah who would arrive on a donkey (one cup was for the Messiah one was for the donkey).

We went to a Kabbalah art gallery where the artist of the shop told us a summary of what Kabbalah is. He was very enthusiastic about the different aspects of Kabbalah. We then went to a very well known candle shop in Tzfat where we saw a demonstration of how the candles are made in the shop. After the candle shop we were given time to walk on the streets, eat lunch and go to the shops before they closed. After an awesome trip to Tzfat we went back to the kibbutz and got ready for Shabbat.

When we came back as a group, the girls and guys split up for part of the prayers. The women all lit candles together. When the girls walked back to meet up with the guys in the group, all of the guys had a rose in their hands and each girl received a rose as a way to welcome in the Sabbath. We said the blessings for Shabbat and then we ate dinner.

After dinner we had a very interesting and deep discussion about God and whether each one of us believed in him or not. After the discussion everybody rested around the kibbutz and enjoyed Shabbat in Israel
