Day 7: An experience of a lifetime
Today we visited Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial, in the morning, and the first thing we did was listen to a survivor who had been in five concentration camps during the Holocaust. His speech was very moving and sad and filled with many emotions. Hearing him speak about it first-hand was a really touching experience. I am glad that I got to hear him speak and learn more about the Holocaust. The whole experience at the Museum was moving, and I just wish the whole event had never happened to begin with.
On a happier note, we next went to Kiryat Gat, in Chicago’s Partnership 2000 region, where we met a group of children from different communities. We played games with them, played soccer, basketball, danced, and had a blast hanging out with them. This experience will stay with me forever and I am so grateful that I was able to participate and meet the children and play with and learn from them.
In Kiryat Gat, we also got to meet the family of one of our Israeli peers. At Evyatar’s home we enjoyed the wonderful hospitality from his family. The food that was prepared was amazing and the donuts were delicious! It was a great day! Every one of these days has been amazing so far, and I can’t wait for what’s to come!
Well it’s time to go to now, we are driving to the Bedouin tents and I can’t wait! Laila Tov!
