Daytime Friday and Shabbat 7/8-7/9 | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Daytime Friday and Shabbat 7/8-7/9

Shalom from Israel! It is amazing to finally be here. We have spent the past few nights at the Kibbutz Afik Guest House, and we write you now from the bus on the way to Tzvat. The scenery could not be more beautiful as we drive past Lake Kineret (The Sea of Galilee). So let us fill you in on the past few days: On Friday we took a hike in the Gilabun along a stream in the Golan. The surroundings were incredible, seeing the nature of the area at its finest. We then made our way to Har Bental, the top of the Golan Heights, and learned about the history of this area. We looked out over Syria and Lebanon, and even experienced climbing down into the bunkers. Of course after these two fantastic views eating was a must where falafel, shawarma, and schnitzel could not have tasted better. The day could have not been complete without another panoramic view of the Jordan Valley, Syria, and the Hula Valley. After a truly filled and exciting day it was time to celebrate Shabbat. With a service, Shabbat dinner, and even an Oneg filled with Israeli treats, it was a great feeling to celebrate Shabbat in Israel. Saturday's day of rest was certainly needed, and lounging by the pool with new friends was nice and relaxing. There was a chance to learn a little more about the Kibbutz and take a walk down to the natural spring where the water was cold and crisp. Shabbat came to an end with the Havdallah service, where we then ventured into Tiberias. Tiberias had many restaurants to choose from, and a taste of Tiberias was great. Looking forward to the week to come! :-) -Nikki and Geoff
