Emotionally Charged

Today was a very emotionally charged day for our group. We began the day by visiting Yad Vashem, which is Israel’s Holocaust Memorial. Many of us in the group have been affected in various ways by the Holocaust and this memorial was a way to reflect, remember, and most of all realize there is hope. When you exit the museum, you see a beautiful view of Jerusalem and it is easy to remember there is now a home for the Jewish people, no matter what happens. After lunch, we traveled to the Neve Shalom school. The people of this village and school demonstrate the possibility of coexistence between Jews and Palestinians. It was interesting to hear about the way the school celebrates all holidays and everyone is treated equally, no matter what their origin is. We checked into our hotel, which is a hostel in Jaffa and we had a wonderful discussion with the chief historian of Yad Vashem. Finally, we spent the night out in Tel Aviv, where we were able to explore the night life in downtown Tel Aviv. Soccer was on every TV that we saw! We are all looking forward to another day together!
