An Israeli soldier. | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

An Israeli soldier.

1.6.2011, 07:45 am. I woke up to the smell of dry sand and the sound of desert wind. The first thought that went through my mind was: “what happened to my bed and why is this guy keep waking me up?!” “Liran! Wake up already!” “Sam stop it! I wanna sleep…” “No. you have to get up, breakfast is served.” So I got up. And guess what, it was the best meal I had so far on the trip. of course, I woke up too late and the camels were already upset, so I didn’t even had the chance of finishing it up. Just another morning of TAGLIT. (you have the details, now lets get emotional… J ) I’m an Israeli soldier, one of seven on this amazing adventure. And I keep forgetting about that fact. The only thing I remember is that I’m still a teenager. Even with the cultural differences, we all are still 20-years-olds. We have the same stories, only in different languages. We love the same music, except the singer is not the same guy. And eventually, we became this one big amazing group, with a great purpose - to get to know each other a bit better - so we can learn about ourselves some more. I came on Taglit with a good friend of mine, and I was happy that there’s no way that I’ll be lonely here. But the strangest thing happened - I haven’t been alone with him once since the beginning of the trip. Once the language barrier is broken, and with this AMAZING trip being taken in account, this may just be one of the biggest experiences I’ve ever had. I keep trying to help those guys to experience the amazing Israel I know, and through them, I found a new Israel for me to live in. I’m an Israeli soldier, and I’m a bit prouder to be one now. But more important - I’m an Israeli human being, and that’s one big of a pride. I guess some things can’t be put to words, so I hope you’ll believe me when I say I’m having an amazing time. I will go to sleep smiling tonight. Thank you.
