I have to admit that I was't exactly excited to get up at 4 am this morning for the hike of Masada. However, the beauty of the stars outside definitely was a nice reward. We could see casopeia and orion's belt- the best view I've ever had of them. Once we were hiking I was definitly more focused on not falling off the mountain than the stars, and the hike was just as hard as I'd heard from friends who have gone on birthright. As it started getting brighter out I didn't know if I would make it to the top for sunrise. However, I managed to arrive in plenty of time and was even the one to catch the first glimpse of the sun. It's hard to describe just how beautiful it was. After learning the history of the mountain and a well earned shower and breakfast we headed back to Jerusalem and the Wailing Wall. It was a nice touch to get to return to the wall at the end of the trip. This time I went into the side room, to the right of the outdoor section. I was excited to see that the cracks in the wall there are much deeper and were not full of notes. I was able to leave my note in a very deep crack and I like to think that it will stay there forever, or until the paper disintegrates. For lunch we went downtown to an old fashioned market where they sell fresh nuts, vegtables, fish, and baked goods in the street. I had my daily falafel which I'll definitly miss back in DC, My friends and I also went to a well known bakery called Marzipan where they have chocolate rugalach as good as the kind you can get at a NY Jewish bakery.
