Exploring the Golan Heights
BANYAS HIKE
The morning was spent on a spectacular and beautiful hike along one of the 3 tributaries to the Jordan, the Banias! We enjoyed a hike with spectacular views of rushing water flushing under us and down small water falls and rapids and surrounded by lush only-can-be-described-as-Irish-green hillsides. We hiked under and next to almond, olive, walnut, fig,and pomegranate trees and beautiful budding flowers fresh from the recent rains.
LUNCH
Normally lunch would not be notable, but this was our first time tasting the flavors of Israel. While many people bit into flavorful falafel or spicy schwarma, another small group had a unique experience. It was their first communal and shared meal of hummus platters. Warm, creamy hummus, served with various toppings. Dipping into all the varieties and combinations that are hard to even imagine combining with the tangy taste of pickles and fresh salads served complimentary along side, this group had a true Israeli experience.
HAR BENTAL
Blown away, not by the chill breeze blowing across the peak we were standing on, but by the facts and history shared. Participants stood in full attention listening to Yonatan's every last word as he explained borders, historical battles, key moments in history, army reserves, wind energy and so much more.
TOMORROW
Will be a change of pace from learning about the struggles and triumphs of the Golan Heights. We will visit Tzfat the home of Kabbalism and have a full day experiencing many aspects of Tel Aviv through the tastes of a the Shuk HaKarmel (market), a guided walk through the city, a visit to the Independence Museum, live music by Udi Krauss, and an evening on Dizengoff street to soak up Tel Aviv's unique culture.
