Day 3: Saturday
10:30am breakfast (coffee and cake) and “The Wind Blows” name game. Lunch--grilled chicken, carrots, rice, hummus, salad, bread, apples. After lunch I went for a walk around the kibutz and then to the pool. We played basketball in the pool and were joined by an Israeli soldier who came from Vassar, dropped out of college and came to live on Kibbutz Malcia with a host family. I went for a run around the kibbutz, and at 5:00 went to a talk about the importance of living in harmony with nature. We also went to look at the border with Lebanon, which was brown and dry compared to Israel which was green and irrigated. Then we talked with a member of the kibbutz who told us about the process of joining and getting assigned a job on a kibbutz. After the talk, we packed our bags and showered (squeegee in the shower). We went to Rosh Pinah for dinner, a small town in the Golan Heights. I ate with some people at Moya-- an outdoor restaurant with a projector screen showing the Mundial (World Cup) game (US v. Ghana). I got some sort of Thai inspired pasta. The food took forever so we got a free glass of milk. We got back to the kibbutz and hung out a bit.
Day 4; Sunday
Breakfast at 7:15am. Bus ride to Tzfat, the mystical city of Kaballah. The Kaballah is the spiritual aspect of religion where you transcend body and explore the soul. We walked around the city, which was paved with cobblestones and had stone buildings with small, quaint streets and lots of art and jewelry. We went to the Kaballah Art Center and saw an Israeli glass blower who talked about Kaballah and the importance of finding the positive. I had a hummus platter for lunch, recommended by Michael, our bus’ security guard who is from Tzfat.
