Shablog! | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Shablog!

Shabbat Shalom! After a whirlwind trip around Jerusalem and a night of socializing, the group got some much needed R&R. The day started with coffee and cake, followed by a discussion about the meaning of the Torah. The conversation focused on how we interpret the Ten Commandments and what modifications we would make today. The morning activity was followed by a period of reflection and relaxation. At the rooftop pool of the Caesar Hotel the group had a chance to enjoy Jerusalem's beautiful weather. At the pool we discussed the experience of observing Shabbat in Israel and the trip thus far. Check out the video interviews below! Later in the afternoon, Melissa decided to give an impromptu yoga class to interested Birthrighters. It was a nice chance to stretch out our legs and relieve some stress. We discovered that our group leader Jeremy is a great yogi. Take a look at some of the pictures from the class. After yoga, we regrouped for our second activity of the day -- an in depth discussion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It was fascinating to hear the Israeli perspective on the issue and share thoughts on possible solutions. Then, in preparation for our visit to Yad Vashem tomorrow morning, we discussed our feelings surrounding the Holocaust. After another brief respite, Ori's friend led a great Havdallah with singing and prayer. It was a nice way to reflect on the past week and to prepare for what's to come. Finally, the group walked to Ben Yehuda Street for shopping and eating. Shavuah Tov!
