Top Shlichim Offer Recruiting Advice

One of Shorashim’s most successful ventures is our “Shaliach Program,” where former Taglit-Birthright Israel participants recruit participants for future trips and compete for awards and prizes.

You might be asking yourself, “Should I sign up to be a Shaliach?” Shorashim’s answer would be “absolutely.” There is nothing to lose and no commitment if you find that you’re not up to it. But we figured that you would want to hear from actual recruiters so that you know exactly what you are getting into if you choose to sign up.

Elyssa Rosenbaum has been recruiting for Shorashim for several seasons. She lives in Syracuse, NY and attended college at James Madison University. Elyssa is very focused on directing Taglit-Birthright Israel participants towards Shorashim because she wants to “know that they are going to have as awesome of a trip as I did.”

Vinny Pine, a junior at Indiana University agrees, “An important part of Israel is making not only the connection with the land, the past and the history, but also the people. Shorashim delivers you to the people, it’s that simple.”

Sunny Hertz is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign and lives in Chicago. She recruits because of her love of Israel and for the incentives, “As a result of successful recruiting, I have been able to visit this amazing country that Shroashim has introduced me to several times.”

Marina Pulik is a student at the University ofHIllinois at Chicago and works for Glenview Vision Care. She has been a very successful Shaliach and says she has no problem fitting it into her schedule.

“It doesn’t take a big time and work commitment,” Marina said, “By updating  your Facebook page a couple times a week leading up to the sign up date is half the work. As soon as you see some people that are interested, you have to stick with them until they actually sign up, but it doesn’t take more than a couple of phone calls or texts.”

Adam Kornetsky, a graduate of Tufts University, said sincerity is important. “I thought of every Jew I knew that hadn’t been to Israel and wrote personal notes to them, messaged them and genuinely talked to them about my experiences. It is most important that it doesn’t feel like a gimmick.”
