Yad VaShem:Israel's Holocaust Museum

"To take a life is to take the entire world."
It's easy to lose sight of the magnitude that came with each individual's death in the Holocaust. With numbers so large the victim's stories are often overlooked, because it's easier to think to oneself "a lot of people died" rather than "somebody just like me or even my mother was stripped of their life.". Yad Vashem (the Holocaust musuem in Jersualem) strived to share those stories and how important each one was. Yad Vashem was organized in chronological order in a very architecturally interesting building starting pre-concentration camps and ending with establishment of the S`tate of Israel. After the main museum area there are several touching memorials, the children's memorial that creates the illusion of millions of candles in a room of mirrors was especially touching. After we were done, I found it interesting that we were given popsicles because it seemed to emit a playful feeling after such a serious day. The Israeli outlook is to let go and celebrate a little to move past a day of mourning. We all got a sweet taste of this Israeli way of life after experiencing the spectacular Yad Vashem Museum
