Day 7: Touring the Golan Heights | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Day 7: Touring the Golan Heights

Manny & Jared

Our first day in the north was full of adventure and activity. We started our day in Tzfat. The mystical city in the north is home to many amazing sites. We visited the The 'Ari Ashkanaz' Synagogue to learn about kabbalah. This spiritual side of Judaism touches on mind, body and soul. While there, we coincidentally met a Friendship Circle Family Trip from Detroit and got a great group picture. We took a quick opportunity to buy some of gifts in some local shops and continued to David Friedman's art gallery for a in-depth look at his art. He shared some of the methodology and inspiration for his art and we all had a chance to purchase gifts. We finished our time in Tzfat with a authentic falafel lunch.

We boarded the bus and headed to Mount Bental, a northern bunker that remains a critical and strategic position for the Israeli Army in the northern territory. Taken in 1967, this high ground has a controlling position over the surrounding boundaries in both Israel and Syria. The beautiful panoramic views were amplified by the great weather. Of course we got a fantastic group picture which will be posted online.

Our last stop of the day was a crowd favorite, the De Karina Chocolate Factory. Here, we saw some delectable chocolates being made, sampled some of the sweets and then we got to purchase some snacks, many got gifts for friends at home.

Back at the Kibbutz, we ate dinner and had a great evening activity with our Israeli friends. They created a mock IDF, Israeli Army, experience to learn about what a typical Israeli goes through during their service.

We just packed our bags and prepared for a great day tomorrow before heading back south to Jerusalem for the remainder of our trip.
