Day 3
After another early rise and breakfast at the hotel, we hopped on the bus for the short trip over to Yad Vashem, Israel's famous holocaust memorial and museum, where we spent the entire morning. First, we heard holocaust survivor Leesha Rose tell the inspiring story of her life during the Holocaust and her fight against the Nazi's in her years in the Resistance. After this, we took a guided tour of the entire Yad Vashem museum. The museum featured a very informative and emotional presentation of the Holocaust, but we were also touched by the Children's Memorial and the Hall of Names (a massive effort to record the names of all six million jews who lost their lives in the Holocaust). We concluded our time at Yad Vashem by sharing stories of how the Holocaust impacted the lives of our own families. Immediately following the memorial we stopped at a shopping mall to grab some lunch and do a little shopping. We all welcomed the chance to relax for a bit before we set off on a 3 hour bus trip to the kibbutz Malcia. After eating dinner at the kibbutz, our Israeli peers gave a brief lesson on the history of Israel. We broke up into groups and created short skits and played a game based on the events we learned. We all had a good time. Now it's time to get some sleep!
