Last Day in the North!
Day 3-
We started our day with another early wake up and Israeli breakfast, followed by a lively bus ride to the city of Tzfat; one of Israel's four holy cities. We toured the very hilly city, visiting an Ashkenazi temple, and walking through a marketplace where participants bought t-shirts, candles, and of course, ice cream. We then visited Avram, an eccentric artist from Detroit who englightened us on the teachings of the Kabbalah- which is the spiritual inner teachings of Judaism.
After breaking for an independent lunch, we hopped on the bus and headed over to Mount Heron and embarked on our second hike of the trip. On Mt. Heron, we overlooked the Lebanese border and got several different perspectives on the history and politics of the Lebanese/Israeli conflict. We also learned about what Israeli women look for in a man- the qualities of a pig (Hairy, Big, and Romantic!) After the hike we drove to the Hula Valley, where Shoshana gave us some background on the founding and operation of the Jewish National Fund, a co-provider of the trip along with Shorashim.
Tired from a long day, we returned back to Kibbutz Afik, where we enjoyed the pool and some free time before having dinner together. After dinner, we played some games and engaged in meaningful discussion with our Israeli participants about the defining events in Israel's History.
