Bedouin Tents and Masada
By Jacob Hamburger
Yesterday, we woke up in the Bedouin tents at 4:00 am and boarded the bus to hike to Masada. We got there before dawn and hiked up the Roman ramp. The group reached the summit right in time to see the sun rise over the Dead Sea, which was a breathtaking sight.
Later on, Iftah, our guide, took us on a tour of the different archaeological sites. By 8:00 am, we hiked down Masada on the snake path, which was tough.
After finally eating breakfast, the bus went to the Dead Sea and we caked ourselves in the mineral-rich mud and floated in the salty water.
We then got lunch in Dimona, drove a little further until we got to our kibbutz in Sde Boker. After a short rest period, we visited former Prime Minister David Ben Gurion's grave on the kibbutz.
The view in the desert was beautiful and we even saw some ibex. Following dinner, we had our evening program and had a very insightful discussion until bedtime.
