ISRAEL DAY 5: The Zone Out | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

ISRAEL DAY 5: The Zone Out

By Perry Wolfman

Annnnnnnddddd.....Here we go!!! Booking off at 820, our group had a family trip to the beach. Early as it seemed, it made the swim less hot since the sun wasn't out that early. After 2 hours of swimming, it was time to say goodbye to Tel Aviv and hello to the city of fire: Jerusalem.

While on the bus, Ofir mentioned a type of food called Jerusalem Mix: a delicacy of Israel that was know mainly in Jerusalem for its wide variety of meats and vegetables as basically a schwarma wrap. With that notion, my instinct kicked in of Ani Zorem and we were off to taste the mix.

Let me tell you, that mix did not disappoint. Delicious!

The mix was finished and we rode to the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem to see the Western Wall. I had been before, but with this group, it seemed like a powerful presence was present. It was so meaningful to experience the Kotel with my new mishpacha.

The time was closing in on Shabbat, and so we retired to the Crown Plaza hotel. Quite the hotel, mind you. :)

We had some time to ourselves in our new rooms with new roommates (roommates are constantly changing so that everyone gets to know each other); I had the pleasure of rooming with Craig from D.C. and Noam, one of our seven Israelis. The two were great to hang with as roomies.

Coming back together, we did some Shabbat preparations such as songs, flower giving, and finally a delicious dinner.

After dinner, we had free time to do whatever we wanted as long as we didn't leave the hotel. I was so excited because I had Israeli friends that I had worked with in T-Cab come to visit me. From the Israelis, Lika, Kobi and Sharon came to hang out; it was a great treat to catch up with them (I hadn't seen them in both 4 and 5 years!!!)

The time spent with them was wonderful and the last event for my night. So glad I could catch up with them, Lika heading to NYC soon, Kobi has 2 more years of the army as an officer, and Sharon in the last laps in the army and figuring out her life soon after. I definitely want to catch up again once Shorashim is finished.
