Gan Carmit, educational farm | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Gan Carmit, educational farm

We arrived at Gan Carmit educational farm and Elaun warned us, "bring your cameras, Israeli children are 30-40 percent cuter per capita than American children." When we got off the bus, we were greeted by three shy girls and their teacher. We followed the girls onto the farm into a picnic area. There, we were welcomed to join in the spirit of shavuot. There was traditional Israeli circle dancing music playing and we clumsily tried keeping up with the Israelis as we danced together. It was really fun!

We could make tea from fresh mint and other herb leaves, eat the freshest corn ever, and try yogurt with honey made on the farm. Immediately, Ethan and Yuval were surrounded by crowds of children, laughing and asking to be picked up. Everyone was blown away by how good they were with the kids, and as promised, the kids were very, very cute. We then broke off into groups to "work on the farm." My group ground up oats for making bread and repotted some plants and put them in the greenhouse. We then came back to the picnic area to hang out and talk. Then, some of the farm workers placed a giant basket of fresh homemade pita on the table, and yogurt and halva. Dror says "get ready for the best pita you have ever had." Sure enough, the pita (and farm fresh and newly made yogurt and Halavah) were amazing. Everyone dug in and ate together. One of the farm workers came to our table and and thanked us for our hard work on the farm and the warmth we brought with us. Shortly after, we filed onto the bus in good spirits and said goodbye to Gan Carmit.

Going to Gan Carmit was one of the most fun things we have done on the trip so far. There was such a good vibe around the place, probably because of the children. Everyone was laughing, talking, dancing, eating and working together. There was so much delicious food to try and it was just nice that everyone had such a good time with new friends.
