The Great Golan Heights Hike | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

The Great Golan Heights Hike

We woke up bright and early to head out to the Golan Heights for our first major hike. Geared up with our sunscreen, hiking shoes, and sunglasses, we headed out not knowing what was in store for us. After a half hour driving through the mine infested Golan Heights, we relived the conflict between Syria and Israel while observing the bunkers. We began our hike descending down the mountain. The trail was not what we had imagined it to be. Dusty, covered with rocks, sloping up and down, it was tough yet exciting. We followed the red and white flags that marked our trail which led us to what we thought was a trail but we soon found out that it was a stream that covered our knees. When we finally reached the bottom after 2 hours of walking, it was to our great surprise to find a beautiful waterfall in the middle of a mountain on a 90 degree sunny day. The water was so refreshing and was definitely a reward for our challenging hike.
