Mispacha | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Mispacha

Jason Rozet

Today, we talked a little about the Hebrew word for family: Mishpacha -- [Mish-PA-ha]. Israelis are fiercely loyal to their families, which tend to be large in number. The country's tiny size means distant family members see each other much more frequently than American families. For me the term takes on a slightly different or expanded meaning. The trip participants are part of my family, but so are many others who have and continue to treat me with great kindness: friends from high school and college, certain coworkers and people I look up to...even people I've fallen out of touch with, some people I've only tweeted/Instagrammed with or met once. For me, close bonds can sometimes form in a brief moment. So even if you don't know it, thanks for being part of my mishpacha - I'm thankful beyond words.
