Kiryat Gat and the Farm
This morning we went to the Independence museum in Tel Aviv. We saw the place where the state of Israel was declared. We also learned about the history of Tel Aviv there. It was really cool to hear that the pioneers of the city built their city and lives out of nothing that existing in the area before. Then we drove to Kiryat Gat, where we went to a school in a poor socioeconomic status area. We all were able to play games with the 5th grade students, which was a lot of fun. It was difficult to communicate with some of the kids because they spoke little or no English, but it was still very cool. After lunch of shwarma, falafel and iced coffee, we drove to the agriculture area. Here we got to eat fresh fruit and vegetables right from the ground. We tried strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, and a few lucky ones tried hot peppers! All the food was amazing, and it tasted so fresh. Finally, we drove to a lookout spot close to the Gaza Strip and learned about a kibbutz that protected themselves and Israel against the Egyptians in 1948. Then some people held and released pigeons, which was cool to see. Now we are on our way for our night in the Bedouin tents!
