Shabbat in Afik | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Shabbat in Afik

Our Shabbat day began with much needed rest and relaxation. After cake and coffee we had a D’var Torah by our group leader Dan aka Rabbi Glassman. We discussed the meaning of rest on Shabbat and how we express that in our individual and busy lives. All that talking worked up an appetite so we enjoyed lunch together.

Following lunch there was some down time to hang out or, for the adventurous members of our group, to take another hike. While beautiful scenery was enjoyed, there were the always challenging muddy paths and unpredictable downpours to complicate matters a bit.

After the hike (aka naptime for some) we continued to get to know each other by re-introducing ourselves, stating our favorite icebreaker questions and then answering them. There were some interesting facts revealed and laughs were shared by all. We then broke into groups to prioritize the importance of different aspects of Jewish life. Each group then presented their top and bottom three choices to everyone else and more stimulating conversation ensued. Dan and Ori (our Israeli tour guide) then had yet another name game to play, although this one included a falling sheet and a race to name the person on the other side of the sheet.

We then got back on the bus and our tardy colleagues entertained us with songs as we traveled to Tiberias for dinner. Once we were done exploring the city and had a delicious dinner we headed back to the kibbutz. We prepared to leave our first Israeli home and continue on our adventures!
