From the North to Tel Aviv | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

From the North to Tel Aviv

By Rebecca Kahn-Witman

After an amazing three days in the north of Israel, Bus 517 made the 2.5 hour trek (or nap, as some would call it - see pictures below) to Tel Aviv. As we drove into the city, everyone's face lit up as they saw the hustle and bustle of a big city with beautiful palm tree surrounding the streets.

First, we went to Independence Hall to learn about the history of Tel Aviv as well as the Declaration of the State of Israel. We then took our lesson on history and culture and experienced it ourselves in the outdoor market, or, in Hebrew, shuk.

After the excitement of the shuk, we took a few moments to reflect on an important member of Israeli history who had a major impact on the country. Participants interviewed locals around Rabin Square to find out more about Yitzhak Rabin's influence on Israel and its people. This sparked a very interesting discussion about politics and culture in Israel and the U.S.

Finally, after a crazy few days, we spent some time relaxing on the beautiful beach in Tel Aviv. We are getting settled at the hotel and preparing for our trip to Jerusalem tomorrow.

More to come before Shabbat! In the meantime, we'll leave you with a selfie of the Bus 517 staff watching the sun set from our hotel. Enjoy!
