Service and Fun in the South

Today was a hot day! It reached 105 degrees here in the south of Israel. We began our day at Earth's Promise, a very cool non-profit organization, which creates community gardens and reclaims land for community use. We learned about their sustainable and organic farming practices, and then helped them build a garden next to an absorption center for Ethiopian immigrants, where they are able to farm produce native to their culture, including a special kind of corn used for popcorn for parties.

From there we had a nice lunch in the student areas of Beer Sheva, near Ben Gurion University, and then went to learn about the Or Movement. The Or Movement is working to settle the Negev and the Galilee in line with Ben Gurion's vision for Israel. This is really important to try to reduce the overcrowding in the center of the country, especially around Tel Aviv.

We spent the rest of the day around our kibbutz, napping and spending time in the pool, before eating dinner and having a lovely discussion on the Arab Israeli conflict. We're now heading to bed, excited for a fun last day in Tel Aviv, culminating with a Hadag Nachash concert just for Birthright participants.
