Visiting Yad Vashem and the Jerusalem market | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Visiting Yad Vashem and the Jerusalem market

Today we woke up and ate a delicious breakfast at the new kibbutz outside of Jerusalem. After eating lots of eggs, chalva, and rolls with delicious chocolate spread, we loaded the bus and headed straight to Yad Vashem: The Holocaust Museum in Israel.

We began the visit with a guest speaker. An actual survivor of the holocaust. He told us of his journey from his home town in Poland to starving in a death camp,to his eventual liberation. For years, he found it difficult to speak of his past, but inspired by Ellie Wisel, he now speaks freely about his experiences and frequents the museum to educate the visitors. He spends his time traveling the world and sharing his story with people all over the world. Currently he lives in Israel with his wife. He has children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. The walk through the museum was educational and emotional. The trip lead us through the holocaust through the eyes of the Jews.

After the Museum, we lightened the mood with the trip to the shuk, or market, in Jerusalem. The streets and shops were chaotic with the hustle and bustle of the community preparing for Shabbat. We all had lunch and bought bread and fruits for tomorrow while we explored the little shops and stands in the market. After this it is back on the bus and back to the kibbutz for some relaxation before Shabbat dinner and a night full of group fun.

Here are some pictures from the day earlier in Tel Aviv and our first day in Jersualem!
