We love the Shabbas Kodesh | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

We love the Shabbas Kodesh

By Emma Katz

I'll start off by saying `Hi Mom!' (and Dad). Okay now, that I've gotten that out of the way, I can continue with what we did today.

We started our day in Jerusalem with a very emotional and powerful trip to Mount Herzl, the cemetary where Israeli soldiers are buried. Some of our Israeli companions were lovely enough to share some of their personal stories about fallen soldiers they knew and one of our trip leaders, David, shared the story of his friend, Michael Levin, who made aliyah from the US and died in battle.

We then went to Ben Yehuda street for lunch followed by touring through Old Jerusalem and the four quarters within the city. We had some time to rest at the hotel before Shabbat. Some people went to services led by our very own Or while others met together to discuss what it means to be a spiritual person. We look forward to a day of rest for Shabbat tomorrow and lounging by the pool.

Shabbat Shalom to you all, and yes, I put sunscreen on today Mom!
