Who is meeting me at the Airport?? Dan Glassman of course!
Bus 155... It's good to be alive!
My name is Dan Glassman and I will be meeting everyone at Newark Airport on Wednesday 22, to begin the fantastic experience that is Shorashim Birthright!
First, a bit about myself: I am from Ventura, California, a small beach town 30 minutes south of Santa Barbara and 2 hours north of Los Angeles. I grew up participating in my local youth group and going to Jewish camp in the Santa Monica Mountains. I attended California State University Channel Islands where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Business and a Bachelor's degree in Economics. I continued my education at Cal State Channel Islands with an MBA degree (Master of Business Administration). I currently own a commercial/residential window washing company, The Glass Man, which I started as an undergrad and continue to manage and operate today. Additionally I work as a general business consultant for struggling companies and start-ups. When not staffing birthright trips for Shorashim, managing a growing window washing company, and consulting, I can be found in the high mountains of California, rock climbing.
My birthright experience occurred in 2005. For me it was huge, as it not only opened my eyes to the way Jews live all over the world but to the way people live all over the world. Birthright can be for many as if was for me; a unique experience that not only exposes one to Israel, the land and the people, but to worldly traveling. After my birthright trip I was hooked and knew I needed to get back to Israel... the beautiful Jewish people, the food, the land... I loved it all and wanted more. Over the next few years I volunteered with the Jewish National Fund participating in work projects in the Negev, and ultimately traveling extensively all over the entire country of Israel. This experience led to the opportunity to staff Birthright trips for Shorashim. I have worked for Shorashim staffing birthright trips since 2010. Since 2005 I have traveled to Israel 8 times spending considerable time all over the country during each visit. I have friends in every corner of the country. I have participated in a passover seder utilizing a haggadah written in only French and Hebrew. I have fallen in love with an Israeli woman. I have rode a bus from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and back. I have spent an entire day at the Western Wall. I have solo kayaked the Jordan River and the Kinneret. I have struggled to find an English speaker and a place to stay on Sabbath eve in the Golan as the last store closed. I have hiked all over the country and never found a bad bowl of hummus or a falafel I didn't like!
It is from these experiences and more that I draw from to create and fuel a fantastic learning and enlightening experience for everyone who will ride with me from Newark International Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport to begin an amazing trip together!
This is YOUR Birthright!
