Yad Vashem | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Yad Vashem

By Yerushalmi Uri Ran

Seventh day of Taglit. We started our morning by going to Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. This is my fifth or sixth time to be visiting, and every time it still feels overwhelmingly emotional, regardless the fact I've seen and remembered most parts. As an Israeli, I also took part in a school delegation to Poland between the 11th and 12th grade. This trip was a whole week of traveling through main sites including Majdanek and Auschwitz Birkenau camps. In addition, we were brought a holocaust survivor to tell us about her own story, which I feel really ashamed not to remember how incredible it was. From what I remember now, this trip was very difficult to complete due to the strong impact every stop carves in your thoughts. I don't think seeing sites and even hearing from people who were directly connected could ever help me fully comprehend the horrors they and other Jewish people had gone through. I finished with doing what I have done on every visit: writing in the book by the exit of the museum about the experience. Don't remember what I wrote in previous years, but no doubt on each visit, it feels more moving than the one before.
