A Fantastic Day of Adventure | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

A Fantastic Day of Adventure

By Eli Fine

Yesterday, Elaun, Shoshana and Dan followed up a jam packed first day in Israel with yet another full day of fun activities. We started the day off by traveling to an educational farm in Haifa, where, along with a group of Israeli children, we engaged directly with the land of Israel. Afterwards, we rolled pita dough and watched as farm workers baked the pita in front of our eyes.

For lunch, we went to a Haifa mall (the third best mall in Haifa, as per our intrepid tour guide Elaun,) where I had my first authentic Israeli falafel and discovered that it really is all it's cracked up to be.

After lunch, we drove to Mount Arbel in the Galilee region of Israel. We drove up the mountain and hiked down. Midway down the mountain we encountered a huge, awe-inspiring fortress, which Elaun explained was fortified by Muslims after they held the crusaders off at the end of the first crusade. It was amazing to stumble upon such an amazing piece of history!

After returning to the kibbutz (where we were staying) for dinner and icebreakers, we settled down around a small campfire in honor of lag b'omer. We roasted marshmallows as well as potatoes that we had been given by those at the Haifa educational farm that morning. It was so cool!

All in all, it was a fantastic second day of adventuring through the Holy Land. Looking forward to the next eight.
