Running Through Tel Aviv | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Running Through Tel Aviv

By Polina Prokhoda

We saw Tel Aviv by running through it, hopping from site to site, and soaking in as much information as possible. We paid a short visit to the beautiful beaches of Tel Aviv, where we played frisbee and volleyball, surrounded by other travelers and Birthright Israel groups.

We met Assi Azar, who shared his experience of being a gay celebrity in Israel.

We danced, sang, and made music with the group. We ate tastes of food which probably added up to a very large meal.

Tel Aviv seemed to be a mix of a seaside city, a European city - with cobble stone streets, arches, colorful flowers - and something more practical, which reminded me of the architecture in Ukraine.

Even though all of the groups were separate, there was an overarching sense of unity between the different birthright groups, which made all of us feel at home. Or maybe we just didn't know who was who in the blue and white shirts we were all wearing to show our Birthright Israel pride.
