Day in Tel Aviv | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Day in Tel Aviv

Jeff Gates

Today we went to see the sight where Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated.  In the middle of Tel Aviv where the city is very much alive and thriving Israel lost one of its most important, beloved, and decisive prime ministers.  We interviewed people who were his soldiers, people who heard the gunshots, and others who were all touched by his death in some way.  The excitement in the air of the possibility of peace that once existed in the 90's is gone along with Rabin.  But the idea of Israel one day living in peace with others lives on, for many but not all.  We also met people young and old who said there is no chance for peace.  Young people, older Israelis, soldiers who think Israel will always be at war.

But one day they will be gone and we will be too.  Our grandkids and great grandkids, along with those of our neighbors, will have the same question and perhaps they will be better at answering the question.
