Masada and the Dead Sea

By Morgan Richmond

What did you do today?
My day began by waking up at 3:50am in order to watch the beautiful morning sunrise at the top of Mt. Masada. At the top of this amazing mountain, our group explored Masada and learned about the history from this site. We watched as a few of my friends had their bar/bat mitzvah, which was very touching and inspriational! I then went to the Dead Sea where I floated alongside everyone and enjoyed the beautiful salty water.

What was your favorite part of the day and why?
I enjoyed the bar and bat mitzvahs this morning the most because it made me feel closer to my friends on this trip. They spoke about different aspects of their life that I was unaware of and it was a good feeling to know that they felt comfortable enough to share there stories. It brought us closer together.

What's something new that you learned or something that you tried for the first time?
I had learned a lot about Masada that I was very unaware of before this adventure. For example, I didn't know the entire history behind Masada and that many Jewish people were enslaved on this mountain. That really changed my perspective on the site.

What was the best thing you ate today and where did you get it?
The breakfast we had following the climb down from Masada was excellent. I enjoyed the pudding they gave us because it tasted very similar to Snack Packs in the United States. :)
