Meeting a Bedouin Activist

By Felicia Davidson and Ava

What did you do today?
We went to the IDF cemetery on Mt Herzl, met a Bedouin activist for women's rights, and had lunch on Ben Yehuda Street in Jerusalem.

What was your favorite part of the day and why?
We liked talking to the Bedouin woman because she was working to positively change her community. Afterwards we went to a shop selling embroidery made by women in her nonprofit so that they would be able to support themselves. It was an amazing experience.

What's something new that you learned or something that you tried for the first time?
We learned that the Arab Bedouins, much like the Native Americans, were an ancient nomadic people who were forced to give up their traditional way of life to avoid trespassing on private property. Nowadays many live in poverty. It was a very interesting and moving experience.

What was the best thing you ate today and where did you get it?
Falafel on Ben Yehuda street!

What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
The time we get to spend together before we have to say goodbye to our mishpacha, as well as the time we will spend together in Tel Aviv with those of us who are extending!
